Mentoring, Training and Leadership Program

The 2009 program runs over several months with components scheduled to fit into your business commitments and lifestyle – you can do it as quickly or as slowly as you need.

The program components can be tailored to suit your business. If you are interested in the Mentoring and business planning, but not the training with Permaforest Trust, this option is now available.

What are the key components of the program?

  • One-on-one mentoring with a business or industry leader related to your industry sector;
  • Accredited indepth studies with sustainability educator, Permaforest Trust via online study, small group sessions or workshops to suit your timeframes;
  • Self-directed business planning to support your long-term business success and aspirations;
  • Ongoing facilitation, support and guidance in a collaborative and practical environment and network of colleagues and peers;
  • Showcasing your business or enterprise through the BSSB website and activities;

What does the mentoring include?

The BSSB MTL program has a pool of mentors available with indepth industry and business experience across a range of industries.

The BSSB MTL program manager will work with you to identify your business needs and select a mentor to work with you.

The program includes 3 x half-day mentoring sessions at your premises at a time to suit you and your mentor. The mentoring sessions can be spread over several weeks or months to suit your timeframes and availability.

In addition, the BSSB MTL program manager will work with you to help you work through the overall program and design and implement your business planning.

What is the accredited sustainability training with Permaforest Trust?

The Permaforest Trust is a leading non profit sustainability learning organisation. It offers a highly relevant, practical and formally accredited curriculum that prepares students to create or grow sustainable enterprises, communities and organisations.

The BSSB MTL program includes four core classes and two electives. All classes can be done online in your own time, in small group sessions or by attending the formal full-day classes conducted by Permaforest Trust at Byron Bay.

The classes begin with an overview of permaculture principles as these are extremely relevant to planning and developing sustainable businesses, projects, enterprises and communities in the face of global threats such as climate change.

Four core classes are:
  • Introduction to Permaculture Principles and Practices;
  • Bioregions and Bioregional Development;
  • Community Development;
  • Project Administration.
Two or more optional electives can be selected from:
  • Energy fundamentals;
  • Organic farming and gardening
  • Appropriate technology
  • Climatic factors
  • Urban permaculture
  • Rural permaculture
  • Forestry and silviculture
  • Earthworks, water and aquaculture
  • Food storage and preservation
  • And others

What other activities are included?

The BSSB MTL program manager will work with you to develop your self-directed business planning.

A key component is the opportunity to liaise and network collaboratively with other program participants and the wider BSSB program network.

This will include the opportunity to participate in the free workshop series; networking events; special events such as the Beaudesert Eco Expo and other environment and sustainability events.

Program participants also have the opportunity to have their business profiled on the BSSB website and to be listed in the Sustainable Scenic Rim sustainable business directory.

How much does the program cost?

This BSSB Mentoring, Training and Leadership program is funded by AusIndustry and Scenic Rim Regional Council and is coordinated by sustainability learning organisation the Ethos Foundation.

Because of the significant funding received by local and federal government, all-inclusive participation in the full program is only $619 per business or person. For businesses that are interested in the Mentoring and Business Planning but do not require the Permaforest Trust training, contact us for more information on the program fee.
