June 14th and 15th
Experience “A World Apart”…. an event that will be held in conjunction with the Beaudesert Country and Horse Festival over the weekend of 14 and 15th June 2008. Guests are encouraged to explore the experiences and authentic regional food that reflect the life experiences and passion of six different operators located within the Mt Barney precinct. It is also an opportunity to personally meet the people that bring fantastic variety to a short break experience.
The $30 ticket is valid for the whole weekend, and with so much on offer, an overnight stay with the operators that provide accommodation would allow immersion into a leisurely weekend experience. Your ticket to Experience “A World Apart” will include: - Bushtucker interpretative walk at Mt Barney Lodge
- Wine tasting with the vigneron at Barney Creek Vineyard cottages
- Alpaca farm tour at Rathdowney Alpaca Farm
- Gurkha themed appetisers in Thistledown Country Retreats’
heritage garden setting - Rathlogan Olive Grove olive oil and dukka tasting at the olive grove
- Homemade gelato served in a wood-fired pizza oven pavilion where the renowned Schonell Pizza Cafe owners have made their new creative base.
There is also the opportunity to enjoy additional food and activities throughout the weekend such as a gourmet BBQ, wine sales and vineyard platters , Alpaca Shack handmade alpaca goods, Gurkha curry lunch, olive oil products including morning and afternoon tea, and woodfired pizzas where the whole pizza is made in front of you. “Discover Mt Barney” is an emotive catchphrase that best describes the intent and geographical location of a cluster of like-minded tourism operators. “Discover Mt Barney” It is also a call-to-action for visitors to go further than the usual tourist destinations, and have the sense of discovering a location unknown to most people. In this way the group strives towards destination awareness for their area, rather than actions that are based on pure profit. Some other examples of cluster initiatives by “Discover Mt Barney” are Adopt-a- Road, creating a Mt Barney precinct of Beaudesert Country Tourism with own banner and website page, destination representation at the Beaudesert Show, Rathdowney Heritage festival, Beaudesert Food and Wine Festival, and the Brisbane and Gold Coast travel shows. There are 2 emerging businesses in the Mt Barney precinct – Rathdowney Alpaca Farm and Pietros Pizza Caffe who have benefited from the networking and mentoring opportunities given by a positive tourism cluster. The concept of a living local economy is being realized as products and services generated by each business are used and promoted within the valley. And the increased tourism visitation numbers drawn to an attractively marketed area helps the wider community economy as well. For further information contact Tracey 5544 3233 or
