Fassifern Fresh Food Festival in 2009

In July 2009 a community group based in Boonah will present the first Fassifern Fresh Food Festival. Attached is an "Expression of Interest" form for fresh food producers and growers to invite their participation in this event. The key criteria is that the fresh and produced/value added product must be either grown or processed in the Scenic Rim Council area. This includeds, fruit and vegetables, wine, olives, cheese, spirits, chocolate, etc.

Tourism event on 26 November of interest to BSSB participants

Wednesday 26th of November 2008. Network and meet face-to-face with a team of tourism industry representatives from Tourism Queensland, EC3 Global, Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry and Queensland Tourism Industry Council to get the latest on environmental management strategies, benchmark practices and ways to a sustainable tourism business.

Whole-of-shire workshop for small businesses to plan a sustainable future
Small business owners and operators in the Scenic Rim will begin to shape a more sustainable economic future for the region at a whole-of-shire strategic planning workshop on Monday 1 December.

“This workshop is the culmination of the 2008 Building Sustainable Small Business (BSSB) program” said coordinator Jan McGregor.

”Lots of enthusiastic discussion and ideas have been generated throughout the BSSB workshops and activities this year and this event will be a great opportunity for focused small business planning and networking across the region,,” she said.

Wild Birding - a bird watching weekend in the mountains

A Bird Watching Weekend in the Mountains.

Come on a residential weekend of discovery, observation and interpretation of some of Australia!s most beautiful birds with renowned naturalist Barry Davies*.

Set high in the Scenic Rim, Wild Mountains contains open eucalypt and sub-tropical rainforests, with each habitat perfect for watching its own suite of specialist birds.

regent-bowerbirdNovember is a great time with all resident and migratory species present and birds either nesting or with fledged young. It should be possible to see over a hundred species including
Albert!s Lyrebirds, Noisy Pittas, Paradise Riflebird, Green Catbirds and Wompoo Pigeons.

A presentation on Friday night will kick off the weekend. Bird watching will be spent between the different forest types working in large and small groups. Saturday evening we will compare lists and give presentations before a spotlighting session. Sunday morning will see more fieldwork, a final list and discussion before departing after lunch.

WHERE Wild Mountains is 40 minutes from Boonah or Beaudesert and a further hour from Brisbane or the Gold Coast. It is one hour from Kyogle via the Lions Rd. Directions will be sent on registration.
